I remember a time when I could read anything, anywhere. Now? Let's just say things have changed. I'm not getting any younger, and my eyes are definitely letting me know it. This is my story about navigating the world of reading glasses and finding what works for me. If you're a fellow GenXer squinting at menus and phone screens, you're in the right place.
It started subtly. A little squinting here, holding things further away there. Then, bam! I realized I couldn't read the fine print on a label without serious effort. It was frustrating, to say the least. Like many others, I was facing the reality of presbyopia – the gradual loss of the ability to focus on nearby objects. It felt like the worst thing about getting older. I even started to identify with that Burgess Meredith episode of Twilight Zone; I couldn't imagine not being able to read.
I've always had some vision issues. I've worn glasses for distance and astigmatism since I was a kid. I could never get used to contacts, that feeling of touching my eyeballs just freaked me out! But now, at 51, I find myself taking my glasses off to read. The irony isn't lost on me.
Another thing I’ve noticed is the need for extra light. Cleaning has become a chore because I can't see the dust bunnies lurking in the corners! I even considered wearing a headlamp. Sexy, right?
My first solution was simple: cheap reading glasses. I grabbed a few pairs from Amazon. I now have a pair in my car, one at work, and several scattered around the house. They’re a lifesaver for quick fixes, like reading a restaurant menu or checking a text message.
But eventually, I realized I needed a more permanent solution. That's when I decided to try progressives. I resisted the term "bifocals" with every fiber of my being! Honestly, I wish I'd done it sooner. They’ve been amazing. However, even with my progressives, I sometimes need reading glasses while wearing my contacts. It's a bit much, but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do to see clearly.
Recently, I discovered Mozaer and their selection of reading glasses. I was particularly drawn to the style and found a pair that really spoke to me.

I recently tried the R45818 Reading Eyeglass Women Cat Eye Presbyopic Glasses from Mozaer, and I have to say, I'm impressed. I love the cat-eye shape and the red color – they add a touch of fun to my look. Getting the right diopter was key, and these glasses have made reading so much easier. It's really helped with my ability to focus.
Through my experiences, I've learned a few things that might help you too:
